After three weeks of closure due to wildfires of many Oregon forests, things are slowly opening back up. The Willamette National Forest, except for fire closure areas, is now open. This means that Middle Fork District trails around Oakridge are open but McKenzie River trails such as King Castle and O’Leary are still closed. Also many local BLM trails have opened including Whypass and Alsea Falls. The Siuslaw National Forest is open including Cape Mountain and Cummins Creek. ALL campgrounds in the Willamette and Siuslaw NF remain closed. Know that there will be some (potentially a lot) of blowdown on the trails from the wind event on Labor Day. Be sure to check the Willamette National Forest website or Facebook page for changes and up to date conditions.
