The schedule was 9-4.  Assuming you worked those hours plus 2 hours travel time = 9

    Thanks for showing up Nick!

    Bump!

It ain’t over yet!!  We have made a big dent, lots more to do.  I don’t want to burn the same volunteers out….lets see some more faces.  Last weekend saw some fresh faces from DOD, lets build on that.

If you do pre-swamp, post up.  Sawyers will be all to happy to follow on.

Remember, Goodman and North Shore are on official hold.

update:  Lawler is logged from Duval creek down to Hwy 58.  Peter, Terry and ? will finish raking the last 5-600 feet that were left undone yesterday.  The road to Duval, 531 is still blocked fyi.

Missing Brad. Not everyone knew about the 5 year battle with cancer he so valiantly fought. He didn’t want a lot of attention given to it. He just rode off into the sunset.

Brad was very involved with DOD when he had his health. Riding, trailbuilding and supporting events. Brad was saw certified and trails he built at Whypass include Showtime, Bad Gravity and he first lined out Brad’s Bad Hole on SST.

    We lost another to cancer.

On the subject of hardhats.  You can buy a cheapo at Home Depot or Jerry’s for $10-15.  You can get a professional level hardhat at TerraTech.  TT also has an awesome selection of saws, loppers, clothing….everything you could need for safety and productivity in the woods.  They will probably give you a discount if you mention DOD too!

Make sure the hardhat has a suspension system (webbing, not foam padded)  and has some designation from osha or ansi to be legal.  Lee or Peter, can you verify?

Very eloquent plea. But unauthorized building/maintaining of illegal trails will not further long term interests of the mountain bike community.

DOD has reached a formal agreement with the city to construct and maintain new trail. What is lacking is manpower. If your plea can mobilize people, bravo. But go through proper channels. This way we cannot only build trail, but also build a stronger relationship with the Parks and more sustainable opportunities for mountainbikers.

Surprisingly, trails don’t build themselves! We need more and new volunteers to step up. Yesterday on Lawler we had 3 new faces and they made a huge difference. Thanks to John, Andrew and Daniel. I sincerely hope you guys come back, and bring friends. The others present are part of the old guard that always shows up. The ‘old guard’ is limited in numbers and getting ‘old’.

Bottom line. DOD has responsibility for more trail than we have manpower. Taking on new tasks isn’t realistic without more help

Pro tip:  pack tennis shoes for the peak bagging part of the day if you have hard soled bike shoes w/cleats.

Just to further heat up the interest….After bagging 2 7000′ mountains on Saturday, the Sunday ride for a picnic/swim at Suzanne Lake is always amazing as well.  10′ leap into clear water for the platform divers in the group, or scramble down to the waters edge.

See Bruce’s post.  They are installing culverts on Patterson rd and apparently on Shady Dell.  He was turned back on both roads.

I was disappointed to learn of the clearcut to say the least.  Heck, I was long ago disappointed to hear of the thinning!
