Disciples of Dirt
KeymasterI could have missed this someplace, but do we have a section for planned trail work days? Derrick has been working on the Salmon Creek trail for some time and it is a big burly build. We are heading up there Saturday morning to start working on some switchbacks before the Thursday work party with the Scorpions. If someone can add this section or direct me where to post that would be great. If anyone wants to join even better.

GuestHey Shawn,
Just create a new thread under General Discussion to announce each trail work day/weekend. We are trying not to have TOO many separate forums, but may add one (or at least a sub-forum) for trail work down the road if it seems necessary…
Thanks

GuestPosting this for the intern is not a problem Kim…I can do that. But I would have to send out a voice conveying my strong feelings that trail building/repair/maintenance not be subjected to just general discussion. Trail stewardship after all is one of the key foundations for the Disciple’s of Dirt. If you look at the about us page it clearly states, “The Disciples of Dirt is a mountain bike club dedicated to the stewardship of sustainable multi-use trails and to preserving and enhancing access for mountain bikers through advocacy, outreach, social events, and promoting responsible trail use.” Yes we are about having a kickass time enjoying our great backyard on two wheels. But without that core foundation of responsible and plentiful trail maintenance parties, there would be hardly a trail we could ride. These are just my thoughts…take them as you will.

GuestI don't think anybody will disagree that trail stewardship is a key foundation of the DOD. As Kim stated, we are trying to limit the fracturing of the Forums more than absolutely necessary. Between the "Upcoming Events" Feed and posting in the Forum, we hope to get all trail days in front of people so that they are made aware of them. We can also make items "sticky" such that they will remain up top in the Forums and keep that item sticky until its time has passed.

GuestAlso, the planned trail work days that were shared…are on the calendar. The first I've heard of work happening on Salmon Creek tomorrow was in a post today…and I when I was working on Salmon Creek yesterday there wasn't talk of work planned on Saturday. A forum post is a great way to get the word out, but to maximize visibility, ALSO, email me or Kim and we will get it on the calendar ASAP. The day before might work, but obviously will not reach the same number of folks as with greater notice. There's also work going on at WP tomorrow…so there's folks heading to that. Please keep in mind there's work going on all over at all sorts of times/places that are not widely advertised and folks doing work you may not see. I completely understand that for those of us that do A TON OF WORK it's frustrating that there's not more of us fixing/making trail, but you're preaching to the choir here.
Between the General forum and trail conditions there's two appropriate places to post for trail work, plans or needs.
Remember to email: ireman_1"at"yahoo"dot"com and I can get things on the calendar.

GuestBrock, I hope it did not sound like I was suggesting there is a lack of people working the trails as I have seen vast amounts on many trail builds. I just wanted to toss my opinion out into the mix and stir it up a bit. I just figured trailwork would be given it's own easily accessible location so it would be easy for all to see. I just learned of this Saturdays trail day as well…it was a wild hair I think and as such was done in haste…but I kinda like the effort Derrick and others are doing there. It does fall on the WP work day so I imagine most will venture that way and for good reason with ACM8 a week away. Off my soap box now and gonna power nap before a 5am meeting and then picking the boy up to hit Salmon Creek and then take him riding. Enjoy NS everyone that is riding. It's a treat to still have this weather to ride this time of year.
