Please join DOD and Willamalane this Saturday, July 14 at 1 PM to celebrate new local mountain bike trails in Springfield’s city limits! The Thurston Hills system boasts over five miles of trails optimized for biking. The 2.2 miles of new downhill mountain bike trails are in addition to the hiking trails that were unveiled in January.

The grand opening ceremony will include a lap (or two) around the new trail network followed by light refreshments and remarks from Michael Wargo, Willamalane superintendent, and Peter O’Toole, DOD’s own trailwork coordinator.

Come on out and see what our trail elves have been working on all winter and spring. Hope to see you there!

More details over on our Facebook page.

PARKING LIMITED.  The parking lot will fill up quickly.  Once it is full, there will be a potential traffic jam.  It would probably be best to park on the nearest streets and ride up or the LTD Park and Ride by Albertsons.  It is about 2 miles from Albertsons to the park.

This is just my personal opinion and not an official club or Willamalane notice.

Myself and maybe a friend will be there!  So stoked on this. Will there be shuttle or anything, or is it a grunt and grin?

It’ll be a “grunt and grin” ride. Hope to see you out there.

Hit this again Saturday 7/21, Trail is getting more worn in and also loose in some corners. Did an AM climb up the back side, its a long, 1/2-3+” rocks in places but more gentle grade than the front grunt.  Not so sure if the back side is worth the longer climb, or just to “embrace the suck” climbing the gravel multi use on the main side. Definitely NOT an afternoon climb up that back side in the bake of the sun.

Either way from the TH or the Albertsons end access, the STOKE on the DH is AWESOME!  Next trip I will GO-PRO the descent and post a vid link.

AND to whoever moved that HUGE rock off the trail on the back side of the jump on the upper part, of Yee Haw, thanks.
