I'm not sure why, but I was able to create my account with a 64 character password. Everything worked great until I tried logging in from another computer. I got an error saying that my password can't be more than 60 characters. I've reset my password to 60 character or less and the login is now happy. I use a password manager to generate impossible to remember passwords for each forum and website. Since it remebers all these passwords for me, I like to push the limits on the password lengths.

I find that amazing that you take such an effort for your passwords but I am glad to know that the limit for our forum is a 60 character password. My favorite is 61 so I guess I am back to the drawing boards…..:)

Once I found a good password manager, it became easy. It keeps the damage down if some evil bastard hacks a site I go to. My password there will have no resemblance to any password I use elsewhere.
60 is pretty good. I haven't come accross too many that go much higher. I've have found many that go much lower. I get really concerned when the limit is less than 16. The really big red flag is any site or list that can send me my current password. This one did not do that 🙂

So is the moral of the story: Be just slightly less geeky than Brent, and you should be OK with passwords?
Seriously, though….Thanks for sharing your experience. I doubt that many others will trip across that issue.
