KeymasterSaturday, Sept 25th is a “Happy Ride” at Whypass aka Carpenters Bypass in Lorane. For those new to DOD’s Happy Rides, these are “no drop” rides where all are welcome and we leave nobody behind. We’ll ride for a few hours and then meet back up at the parking lot. Bring a chair for post-ride snacks/beverages. This is an opportunity to learn local trail systems with some DOD guides.
Please maintain at least 6′ social distancing or wear a mask when this isn’t feasible.
Where: Whypass aka Carpenters Bypass. Upper/South parking lot (go past the lower parking lot with the gravel pile and stay on pavement until you see the lot on the left).
When: Meet at 10am, we’ll roll out when everyone’s ready to go, likely around 10:30.
Distance/elevation: This is a trail system with lots of options. There’s plenty of opportunities to bail earlier if you prefer, as the paved road bissects the trail system. Plan on around 1000-1500 feet of climbing and around 13-16 miles.
Parking pass: None needed
Toilets: Pit
Preregistration: No
Cost: Nothing
Directions from Eugene: follow Bailey Hill Road south, which becomes Lorane Highway and travel 12.5 miles. Turn left onto Territorial Road and continue 6 miles to the town of Lorane. Turn right onto Siuslaw River Road and proceed about 1.5 miles. Turn left onto BLM road 20-5- 14.1, Carpenter Bypass Road, and continue 1.5 miles to south parking lot. -
