Alpine Trail Crew Party
Sunday, November 3, 2019 – 9:30AM
MEET AT Red Covered Bridge/Westfir Portal Park at Westoak & North Fork Road (across from Westfir Lodge)

It’s that time of year again… when the summer has run its course and so has everyone else! Alpine Trail is in need of some #alpinelove. We’ll be focusing on trail projects spanning the entire “Alpine Proper” trail system below Sourgrass Meadow as the snow level allows.

Whether you are hunting, hiking, running, riding (whatever you ride) – Alpine Trail is in need of your hands-on attention to put the “shine” back on the tread and get the trail in good shape for winter. Please join the Forest Service, ATCA, GOATS, Disciples of Dirt, Mountain Bike Oregon and our friends at Cog Wild Mountain Bike Shuttles to help put our beloved “crown jewel” to bed for the season.

We’ll shuttle to different areas of the trail system based on number of volunteer teams and experienced leaders. Projects will include a few short re-routes, tread and drainage improvements such as removing berms, clearing drains, and removing slough while restoring outslope and creating new drainage dips, reinforcing corners and switchbacks with rock and poles (small cribwall concepts), and moving and placing rock to protect tree roots and create a more sustainable section of turns just below Sourgrass Meadow.

We’ll provide the “training” for those unfamiliar with trail maintenance technique; we just ask that YOU provide the commitment and enthusiasm to getting the job done! Of course, you’ll also need to dress for the weather; bring raingear, a pack with extra layers and water, gloves and wear sturdy shoes that are appropriate for working in winter conditions. Bring your favorite trail tools if you have them – if not, our friends at GOATS will have you covered!

Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Michelle Emmons, at 541-913-4318 with questions. For directions to the morning meetup spot, put Westfir Lodge into your GPS mapping device and roll across the Red Covered Bridge (across the street from the Lodge) to the park.

Refreshments and high fives will be abundant!!! Plan for a pizza and beer lunch at the Portal following the work party, courtesy of ATCA and Mountain Bike Oregon!
