Unbelievable!

Summer is over, the rains have begun, and Fall Barbie camp is upon us.

Oakshire has generously donated two kegs, Watershed IPA (my fave) and Amber.

Potluck Saturday night.

As Davey would say, "seizure there" and/or "licken forehead to it".

I heard from a reliable source the porta pot will be there, so you might as well come too!

More basic info can be had on the "event" link.....or ask away right here.

Man, I almost wish I could make a triumphant return to y'all's Barbiedom...almost. Seriously, I'd like to, but I'll be out of state drinking out of state rootbeer, riding new trails, throwing myself off new tall objects and hopefully NOT visiting new emergency rooms. Have fun.

BTW, here's a true representation of a rowdy Barbie time, we took it up a notch from last year, because, well...why not go to 11?

Brock...

I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Getting close!

I'm going to deep fry a turkey for the potluck.

Weather in Sisters looks perfect!  (knock on wood)

I have been tracking the Sister's forecast.  Looks camp friendly!
I know I asked elsewhere in the forum, but does anyone have any current information regarding Trail 99?
I hope it is clear.  I sure missed it during Spring BC.

Just talked to Paul S, he is on his way back home from x-country skiing just now. Said 5k has snow on the ground, but expects it to be melted off by the weekend. Paul did say it blew a bit during the last storm, so could be new blowdown, but otherwise he thought the trail 99 would be clear.

Called Casey at Blazin Saddles in Sisters....posed the question about trail 99. He was a veritable fount of knowlege. Before the storm, the trail was in pretty decent shape. Fingers crossed.

Casey also reported that talkes have begun with usfs, cota etc to build a bike specific parallel trail! Stay tuned.

Bonus for Barbie Campers!!

If you tell the folks in the bike shop you are one of us, you will get at least a 10% discount on whatever you need. Thanks Casey!!

I had fun!

Many thanks to Paul Timm for being "Mr. Barbie." Paul brought all the beer... cut all the firewood... stayed up latest... he da man!

Only bad thing that happened throughout the weekend is the Barbie Camp ROCKS sign got stolen. I wonder if it got snatched by losers in a maroon van with a blown out right rear side window and bright yellow spray painted rocker panels. That fugly thing tore through camp Saturday afternoon... it looked worse than Chester. Way worse. (Hope it doesn't belong to anybody on here. If so, I'm sorry. Very, very sorry.) Anyway, suspicuous looking rig.

Anyway don't look for the Barbie Camp ROCKS sign in future years -- it's gone, gone, gone.

Saturday's Trail 99 ride was more fun than a prom date (as if I'd remember) and the potluck was WAY over the top (as usual). OMG, next year I'm bringing doggie bags. I mean, er, you know what I mean.

Many thanks to beer sponsors Oakshire and Planktown for some really tasty suds. Residual thanks to everyone who showed up to make fall Barbie Camp the biggest, badest, bestest multi-day, child-friendly mountain biking event in late October near the town of Sisters that DOD hosts!

What Davey said! This party could not have happened without Paul Timm.

In all it was a great weekend! It didn’t rain a drop after noon on Friday. Saturday was beautiful and sunny allowing for spectacular views of the Three Sisters and all of the mountains. Around 40 riders got to enjoy Trail 99 which was in the best shape it has been since the Pole Creek fire—just a little snow at the top then nice, tacky dirt the rest of the way down. In fact it was so much fun that a small group of us rode it again on Sunday.

Everything at the potluck was indeed fabulous. Barbecued salmon skewers (thanks, Jeff!) dutch oven shepherd’s pie and veggie enchiladas; spanakopita; three different and delicious soups; marinated chicken and potatoes; chili; Paul’s famous deep-fried whole turkey; some yummy salads and a home-made salsa bar (thank you Maria!). Not to mention home-made cheesecake, marionberry pie, pumpkin mousse and a bunch of other amazing desserts that I was unable to sample because  I was just too stuffed.

Thanks to everyone who came out. We had over 50 people around the fire on Saturday night. And thanks to the folks at Oakshire Brewing and Plank Town for the beer! Be sure to stop by both of these fine establishments and thank them for their continued support of DOD.

Oh, and in case you are wondering ... James was the lucky winner of the Barbie Bike. It fits him perfectly ;)
