Middle Fork
John Luc, Charlie B and myself rode from Butcherknife to a mile above Sacandaga on Sunday. We cleared all the logs on that section with either my handsaw or brute force coupled with some engineering. Pretty cool how we moved a one ton log without hurting anybody.
There are the perrenial wet spots that need help. Especially a couple of the slopes a mile or so below Sacandaga. It would be great to get out there to get some drains done.
Thanks for the ride Paul and John. Great weekend!
After you guys left my humble camp, I decided to head downriver on the trail for a late afternoon ride. Seemed like a good idea after another beer and the downriver leg I was feeling pretty good too. But about 3 miles from Butcherknife I came across a giant tree fall. At that point I decided to turn around anyway and found the way back upriver to be a little, how should I say? Taxing.
Anyway this massive tree and all its' octopus limbs will require a lot more than brute strength and clever engineering to remove, suspended as it is above the trail.
Charlie
Yeah, the USFS knows of two tangles in the Sandprairie to Butcherknife section. I don't know the schedule for when it will be cleaned up.
Any updates on the status of the Middle Fork?
Looking to ride it from the bottom up to nearly the top and back down again this Friday, 6/8.
Thanks!
Let us know how it is; that's how this works, if no-one has responded yet.
Thanks,
Flaps

I know the Back Country Horsemen were hosting a work party up there this weekend. Chuckles springs area. I suspect no one has been above that area to any great extent. Sorry. From there down should be good.
As of 6/2 the MF was clear from Sand Prairie to Big Pine Opening. Riding very well.
